Course Description

Central Sterile Processing Externship: 3 | Examine the functions and responsibilities of the Central Sterile Processor for infection control and traffic patterns when in the operating room and other departments. Identify proper storage and transportation standards for supplies. CEUs issued. $60 includes $10 fee. Corequisite: STP 505 Central Sterile Processing: Externship 1, STP 506 Central Sterile Processing: Externship 2, STP 508 Central Sterile Processing: Externship 4. Note: Must be 18 or older to enroll. The externship is held during week days (no weekends) at certain medical facilities and space is limited. Note: Students must have coordinator approval to register.

Describe how central service is involved in controlling infections in hospitals; Describe the organization and functions of Central Service; Describe the Central Service responsibilities for infection control and traffic patterns when in the operating room and other departments; Identify proper storage and transportation standards for supplies in the facility; Describe the organizational patterns of health care facilities.
