Course Description

Conversational Sign Language: Level 1 | Examine the fundamental principles of American Sign Language. Explore basic sign vocabulary, syntax structure, finger spelling and numbers. Discuss basic ASL culture including introductions, labels and name signs. Textbook information available at AACC Bookstore. CEUs issued. $193 includes $10 fee.

Learner Outcomes

Discuss sign language history, its origins, development and present day usage; Recognize and practice American Sign Language fingerspelling and numbers; Examine American Sign Language structure, conjugations, pronouns, non-manual signals, topic comment structure, and question structure; Identify masculine, feminine and signs that denote gender; Discover American Sign Language culture including introduction, labels, and name signs.
