Course Description

Touchstones Discussions | Examine brief passages from great books of the Western and Eastern traditions, American speeches, and folktales from around the world. Collaborate as creative thinkers in a guided discussion. Explore new ways of thinking, speaking, listening and exchanging ideas. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Develop and improve listening, thinking, speaking and writing communication skills; Compare and contrast passages of literature, philosophy, history and science from Western and Eastern traditions, American speeches, and folktales from around the world; Recite passages from the authors of Western literary tradition, such as Homer, Francis Bacon, St. Augustine and Plato; Write reflective journal entries; Discuss dynamics that can be applied to life, family, and civic contributions.
