Course Description

Gardening: Beyond the Basics | Build on basic gardening skills to identify plants for propagation, techniques for pruning of perennials and shrubs, and creating and managing a beautiful sustainable landscape. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Identify types of soil in Anne Arundel County and discuss how composting can enhance soil structure; Recognize propagation techniques of perennials and shrubs, and the best practices for seed saving; Evaluate a landscape, and identify five native shrubs and perennials that can be used; Understand integrative pest management and discuss ways to use them in a residential garden; • Recognize the common types of weeds in the Mid-Atlantic Region and methods for their eradication.
