Course Description

Women of Achievement | Explore profiles of notable American women from all eras and social backgrounds. Discuss women's important role in shaping the nation and society. Study the histories behind famous women and discover the remarkable actions and accomplishments of American women. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Recognize the roles of women inventors in history; Describe the specific inventions created by women and raise awareness of women's achievements, expertise and experience in the contemporary world; Explain strategies women used to overcome hurdles in achieving goals; Describe how these inventions shaped modern society.

Online | Female Music Icons | Women of Achievement. Read and discuss Songs She Wrote: 40 Hits by Pioneering Women of Popular Music by Michael Garber, 2025. These women trailblazed the path for women in music today. Included are Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee, and Dorothy Parker. Learn about these women who created hits and enduring songs and whose creativity was often overshadowed or credits eliminated. | Note: Attendance in online class sessions Tuesdays from 2-4 p.m. is mandatory for section 201.
