Course Description

American Architectural Styles 1700-1900 | Explore exterior and interior architectural styles from the 17th to early 20th centuries. Discuss stylistic characteristics, architects and decorative arts. Examine the influence of historical events and changes in technology and manufacturing. Last class session held at Londontown in Edgewater. Note: Londontown admission fee not included.

Learner Outcomes

Identify stylistic characteristics from different periods in architectural history; Describe the artistic contribution of selected architects; Demonstrate an understanding as to how the events of a time period influenced specific architectural styles; Discuss the stylistic characteristics of architecture and how they are intertwined with historical events, technological/manufacturing changes and decorative arts.
