Course Description

The History of the U.S. Capitols | Examine the history of the 14 U.S. Capitol buildings and the nine different cities which served as the seat of the U.S. Congress. Identify the reasons for the capital relocations. Architectural details, historic events and current functions of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. and the historic eighth Capitol building, the Annapolis State House will be discussed. $43+ includes $10 fee.

Learner Outcomes

Examine the historic timeline of Capitol building relocations in eight different cities before Washington, DC was selected; Discuss each of the fourteen Capitol buildings, including the location, names, functions, history, architecture, and current status; Examine both the exterior and interior architectural details of the current U.S. Capitol building, including its original design, redesign, and expansion over the years; Identify the functions held at the U.S. Capitol, such as inaugurations, state funerals, congressional business, celebrations, and protests; Explore the structure of the Annapolis State House, the sight U.S. Capitol and identify the where four significant U.S. historic events occurred.
