Course Description

Adapted Physical Education 1 | Learn how resistance and weight training can improve mobility, balance and daily living activities through skills and concepts utilized in chair exercise classes. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Define Adapted Physical Education and how it applies to older adults; Assess the needs of the mature adult population with limited motor abilities, health impairments, frailty and those with chronic disease and disabilities; Identify and demonstrate techniques of adapted resistance training that improve hip mobility, balance and apply learned principles to the Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s); Identify specific muscle groups and demonstrate how to increase muscle strength and flexibility; Demonstrate an understanding of physiological development through adapted weight training techniques.
