Course Description

Introduction to the Ukulele | Examine the fundamentals of ukulele playing. Determine holding position: develop tuning skills, fingerpicking patterns and strumming method. Outline basic music theory, locate notes, compare chord structures and practice simple melodies. $150 includes $30 fee. Note: Students must bring either a tenor, concert or soprano ukulele to class.

Learner Outcomes

Examine the history of the ukulele and compare its construction to a standard acoustic guitar; Demonstrate holding position, develop listening skills for an in-tune instrument and practice tuning skills; Outline basic music theory and locate notes on each string; Compare the techniques utilized for open and moveable chords, strumming and fingerpicking patterns; Develop increased levels of competency playing a beginning repertoire of ukulele music.
