Course Description

Fundamentals of Music | Study classical composers and their music through lecture, discussion and listening. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Recognize simple linear (melodies) and vertical (harmonic) structures; Utilize a basic vocabulary of music theory terminology; Recognize and understand all symbols relating to tempo, dynamics and pitch; Demonstrate beginning skills in both aural (ear) and visual recognition of scales, intervals, basic double and triple meters, simple harmonic progressions and simple melodic progressions; Apply fundamental theory to an actual score of music.
