Course Description

Medical Interpreter Spanish: Module Two | Develop interpretive skills to use with patients and caregivers in a medical setting. Examine topics in an online lecture; online lab follows. Examine interpretive techniques for documents and patient contact, style of delivery, cultural issues and state exam preparation. Successful completion of Modules One and Two prepares a student to take any state exam to be a medical interpreter for Spanish. $1,295 includes $1,005 fee. Prerequisite: Students should be fluent in Spanish and English and must have successfully completed WLS-307: Medical Interpreter Spanish: Module One. Note: Offered online in partnership with Cengage.

Learner Outcomes

Identify protocol when interpreting for a Spanish speaking patient or care worker; Outline the code of ethics of the medical interpreter and discuss professionalism, accuracy and cross-cultural differences; Identify and practice three interpretive techniques: simultaneous, consecutive and sight translations and discuss style of delivery; Translate low, regular and high register documents into Spanish or English; Identify test talking skills and review content in preparation for the Spanish medical interpreter examination.
