Course Description

Explore the history, culture and language of China as well as the relationship challenges between the U.S. and China.

Learner Outcomes

Identify three historical facts about China and name two prominent dynasties that represent the Chinese dynastic system; Examine the American perceptions of the Chinese people and describe one example of an ancient tradition, a value, and a celebrated folklore; Explain Chinese cultural characteristics focusing on collectivism, respect for authority, and social harmony and compare it to the American value of individualism; List two challenges that effect the economic and defense relationship between China and the United States; Recite five simple commands, greetings, and basic vocabulary words.
