Course Description

Foundations of Community Interpreting: Part 2 | Continue preparing to use multilingual skills to become a professional community interpreter. Included textbook: The Community Interpreter. Textbook included in tuition fee and will be provided to students. 2 CEUs. $301 includes $31 fee. Note: Designed for students at advanced low proficiency level or above in target and source languages. Corequisite: WLS-325: Community Interpreting Foundations: Part 1. Students must register for WLS-325: Community Interpreting Foundations: Part 1 and WLS-326: Community Interpreting Foundations: Part 2 simultaneously.

Learner Outcomes

Apply interpreter code of ethics and standards to legal, emerging specializations, and remote interpreting contexts; apply appropriate decision-making strategies for common challenges in community interpreting with a focus on communicative autonomy, mediation, and advocacy; employ sight translation, consecutive and simultaneous interpreting skills in community settings via role play simulation; demonstrate applied professionalism, respect for cultural differences/nuances, and culturally responsive mediation.
