Course Description

Pre-Apprenticeship Carpentry Training Part B | Learn entry-level carpentry skills. Discuss ceiling and roof structures including selection and procedure for installing components. Demonstrate procedures for laying out and framing walls. Explain requirements for installing windows, skylights and exterior doors. Illustrate techniques for measuring and calculating rise, run and stairwell openings. CEUs issued. $1,210 includes $110 fee. Corequisites: CIT-301 Pre-Apprenticeship Carpentry Training Part A, and NRN-332 Heartsaver CPR/First Aid Note: Cost includes instruction, textbook and supplies. There are additional costs for NRN-332, HeartSaver CPR/First Aid.

Learner Outcomes

Describe and demonstrate procedures for laying out and framing walls, including roughing-in door and window openings, constructing corners, partition Ts, and bracing walls; Discuss ceiling and roof structures, including the selection and procedure for installing structural components such as gable roofs, hip roofs, trusses, and valley intersections; Explain the requirements for proper installation of windows, skylights, and exterior doors in commercial and residential settings; Illustrate techniques for measuring and calculating rise, run, and stairwell openings; laying out stringers; and fabricating basic stairway to construct stair layouts that meet building code; Employ mathematic calculations including basic operations, geometric principles, and algebraic processes to estimate, measure, and layout materials in both the classroom and laboratory environment;
