Course Description

Pre-Apprenticeship Electrical Training Part B | Gain industry knowledge. Learn to interpret construction documents. Discover how electrical systems connect to HVAC systems and thermostats. Learn load center installation techniques. Explore wiring devices and wiring methods. Learn AC motors and motor controls. Participate in hands on lab activities. Participate in industry standard safety training including OSHA 30 General Construction and Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED certifications. CEUs issued. $1,653 includes $643 fee, textbook and supplies. Corequisites: Pre-Apprenticeship Electrical Training Part A (CIT-314) and Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED (NRN-332). Note: Must be 16 or older to enroll. There is an additional cost for Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED (NRN-332, which includes required online coursework and assignments completed through Canvas.

Learner Outcomes

Demonstrate the following job competencies: bending conduit, equipment selection, tool usage, threading, cutting, and reaming; Interpret schematic diagrams including identification of units of electrical measurement, related calculations, and identification of the basic components of power distributions systems; Select and install conductors based on wire size, insulation, and application; Select appropriate test equipment including voltmeters, ohmmeters, ammeters, and multimeters with reference to equipment safety hazards; Apply safety regulations, standards, and personal protective equipment to the laboratory environment.

Prerequisites

Students must also be enrolled in CIT-314: Pre-Apprenticeship Electrical Training Part A.

Note: Section 901 is hybrid with mandatory face-to-face meetings from 5:30 p.m-9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at Arnold Campus. No class Nov. 23 and Nov. 25. Note: This class has a corequisite. Students must also register in one of the following Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED sections: NRN-332-305, NRN-332-306, or NRN-332-905.
