Course Description

Introduction to Healthcare: Anatomy and Physiology and Personability for Healthcare Workers | Learn medical terminology, including prefixes and suffixes, word roots, and medical abbreviations. Use concepts presented in a body systems approach that emphasizes key anatomical and physiological terms. Study biological chemistry, cell structure and function, tissues and the histology, gross anatomy, and physiology of integumentary, skeletal, muscle, and nervous systems. Recognize essential attributes of a healthcare worker to include verbal and nonverbal communication, and how it relates to patient relations and clinical procedures.  Textbook information available at AACC Bookstore. CEUs issued. $1,015 includes $230 fee. Note: Students must be 18 years old. Corequisites: CMA-303: Medical Assisting Externship,  CMA-305: Clinical Medical Assistant I, and CMA-306: Clinical Medical Assisting II. For additional requirements visit www.aacc.edu/clinicalmedicalassisting. English as a Second Language students must earn a composite score of 310 or better on the Level of English Proficiency exam, or successfully complete Capstone Level ESL coursework. 

Learner Outcomes

Identify medical terms labeling the word parts and define medical terms and abbreviations related to all body systems; List major organs in each body system; Describe the structural organization and function of the human body across the life span; Analyze pathology for each body system including diagnostic measure and treatment modalities; Describe common diseases, symptoms, and etiologies as they apply to each body system; List and describe essential attributes of a healthcare worker to include verbal and nonverbal communication, emotional IQ, and empathy and how it relates to building patient rapport and clinical procedures; Respond to problems using the AIM technique: Align, Inquire, and Make a Plan; Identify characteristics necessary to be a good team member.
