Course Description

Online Computer Safety for Seniors | Learn ways to stay safe on your computer. Create strong passwords you will remember. Discuss best practices for privacy settings on your devices and social media accounts. Learn to stay safe with SPAM, personal emergencies and financial scams. Shop with confidence when adding your information to purchase items online. Develop techniques to protect against online fraud. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

List three recommended guidelines for creating strong passwords and name two secure options for password storage. Explain privacy settings, etiquette and safety protocols when using a social media account. Define two best practices to remove SPAM and avoid scammers on your computer devices. Discuss ways to keep your device secure by updating software, using secure WiFi, and keeping your personal information private when online. Navigate shopping, government, and banking sites safely and discuss current “red flags” to be aware when using your computer or smart phone device.

Grading: Students will receive a Y if they attend the class and an N if they do not. Attendance: Students must attend 60% of the instructional time of this non-credit CEWD class to pass. Class participation: Students are encouraged to participate in this CEWD class.
