Course Description

Emergency Preparedness for Seniors | Learn to prepare for an emergency using practical firsthand tips, tricks and suggestions. Get an overview of emergency response systems by the city, county and state, as well as tips on how to handle an emergency in your home. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Identify the types of emergency events that might occur in Anne Arundel County; Explain the difference between Emergency preparedness, emergency prevention, and an inconvenient event; Describe the community response plans for emergency alerts, evacuation, and list one shelter resource near home; List three items that should be included in a family’s emergency plan to minimize the impact of an emergency event and schedule a time to practice the plan; Identify 5 recommended items to store in a "bug out kit" and an appropriate storage location in one's home; Outline methods to communicate with family members, caregivers, and care providers and prepare a printed list of contact names and phone numbers.

Grading: Students will receive a Y if they attend 60% of the class and an N if they do not. (You must attend both class sessions in order to pass) Attendance: Students will attend this non-credit CEWD class. Class participation: Students are encouraged to participate in this CEWD class.
