Course Description

Commercial Drivers License CDL A: Part 1 | Prepare for the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration Commercial Drivers License Class A examination. Learn about log preparation, combination vehicles, cargo safety, trip planning, cargo documentation, post- and pre-trip inspections, and recognizing and reporting malfunctions. CEUs issued. $2,219 includes $1,910 fee. NOTE: Must be 18 or older to enroll. Students must meet with program manager prior to registration. Call 410-777-2935 to make an appointment.

Learner Outcomes

Discuss the purpose and requirements of the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations (FMCSR) and explain the Hours-of -Service regulations; Demonstrate an understanding of the National Safety Council guidelines for basic control, speed management, space management, emergency procedures and hazardous driving conditions; Explain methods used to document loads and the requirements for handling hazardous materials; Demonstrate mastery of the proper nomenclature and method for doing a pre-trip, enroute and post-trip inspection; Describe and demonstrate malfunction recognition and reporting procedures as well as what to do at the scene of an accident.
