Course Description

China: The Middle Kingdom | Explore the one country in the world that truly matters to the United States in 2023, the People’s Republic of China. Discuss recent events, COVID, TikTok and balloon spying — all of which have directly affected the average American. This course will introduce students to China, aka "the Middle Kingdom." As a bonus, this course will include a fun introduction to Chinese language.

Learner Outcomes

Compare and contrast the United States with China economically, culturally, and geographically; Identify five key figures in Chinese history and discuss their contribution to the Chinese civilization; Describe the concepts of Confucianism, Yin-Yang, Chinese New Years which are unique to the Chinese culture; Discuss three of the future challenges facing the US-China relationship; Examine Chinese civilization and culture through an objective lens and give examples of four basics of the Chinese language.
