Course Description

Discover the exciting world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Develop a better understanding of what AI is, how it has developed over time, and how it is used in everyday life. Discuss the future of AI, the common positive applications at home and work as well as concerns and its potential impact on society. Note: Senior Cycle fee class. Students must be 55 years or older by start date in order to enroll in this class.

Learner Outcomes

Define Artificial Intelligence and identify how it works, and how it differs from traditional computer programming; Explore the history of AI, from its origins in the 1950s to its current state today and list three of the key milestones in the development of AI; Identify four applications AI currently is used in our daily lives that have a positive outcome including voice assistants, smart homes, and medical diagnosis; Examine the future of AI, including potential developments and innovations in the field and its potential impact on society; Discuss the potential risks and challenges associated with AI, such as job displacement, privacy concerns, and the ethical implications of AI development.
